About Jurgen Ziewe
Jurgen Ziewe studied Fine Art at Hamburg’s Hochschule fur Bildende Künste under the tutelage of Professor Kurt Kranz, a Bauhaus student taught by Paul Klee and Kandinsky. Kandinsky’s work has had a powerful effect on Ziewe’s art, and it was to follow in the tradition of the forefather of abstract art that he embarked on his study at Hamburg.
When he had to support a family he began a career as a commercial artist, recognising the potential of 3D and digital computer art right from the outset. He quickly established himself as a sought-after freelance illustrator, with particular success in the consumer poster business introduced by Athena in the early nineties, especially with his fantasy imagery. More than two million of his posters were sold. He also produced a series of science fiction book covers for some of the best known authors in the genre, and in 1997 a book of his computer-generated fantasy images was published by Collins & Brown, entitled “New Territories - The computer visions of Jürgen Ziewe”
He works also as a successful commercial illustrator with an upmarket global client base (see website), including several large advertising agencies . He is currently represented in London and New York by the Illustrator Agency Debut Art.
Jurgen Ziewe recently returned to his roots as a painter. He is currently exploring the human figure in oils.
